Fix Chromebook camera randomly "cuts off" or lags

First, ensure that you’re connected to a reliable and secure network, preferably a private network, home WIFI or school issued Hotspot.

On your Chromebook

Follow these steps below if Zoom randomly disconnects or lags:

  1. Check to see if Chromebook is still connected to the Hotspot or WIFI.
  2. If you’re using a school issued Hotspot, make sure no other device(s) like TV, PlayStation(s) is connected to it except Chromebook(s).
  3. Check for Chrome OS updates and install them if any.
  4. Disconnect Chromebook from WIFI or Hotspot, shut off Chromebook, reset your Hotspot, turn on Chromebook again and connect back to Hotspot or WIFI. See how to reset a Hotspot.
  5. Temporarily disconnect your bluetooth device and turn off bluetooth, restart Chromebook, use a wired headphone.

If you tried the above steps or don’t find this utterly helpful, you can still reset your Chromebook [Chrome OS] and resolve camera or webcam issues with a power wash. Make sure the Chromebook webcam is not damaged or blocked before proceeding with the power wash or reach out to a technician for further support. Perform a power wash.
