MacBook not Showing Disk Troubleshooting

Stage 1 - Erase Mac
Step 1
If you see this screen, select "Recovery
” to proceed. If not, skip to step 2

Step 2
From the recovery screen, click on Utilities and select Terminal.

Step 3
At the terminal screen, type resetpassword
(NB: All lowercase and one word) and enter or click the return key on your keyboard.

Step 4
Click on the Reset Password Completed
screen.

Step 5
Click on Recovery Assistant
and select Erase Mac
.

Step 6
Click Erase Mac
.

Step 7
Click Erase Mac
to confirm.

Step 8
Next, select the language of choice
and click on the Wi-Fi option at the top-right side of your screen.


Step 9
Look out for the message “Your Mac is activated
”. Click Exit to Recovery utilities
to proceed.

Step 10
From this screen, Select Disk Utility and click continue

Stage 2 - Partition Mac
Step 11
Click on View
and select Show All Devices

Step 12
If your disk shows as figure A, proceed to step 13 below.
If your disk shows as figure B, skip to step 20


Please note and follow these steps carefully and accordingly.
Step 13 – Select the Big area of the chart as indicated in the visual below.
Step 14 – Select APFS
as the file format.
Step 15 – Rename the disk from Untitled to APPLE SSD
.
Step 16 – Select GB for the size and ensure the value is either 245,107 or 245 exactly.

If you encounter any errors, repeat steps 13 – 16 again and make sure it looks the same.

Step 17
With your disk looking exactly like this, click Disk Utility
and select Quit Disk Utility
.

Step 18
Select Reinstall macOS Big Sur
and click Continue
to proceed.

Step 19
Click Continue
to proceed and Agree
to accept Apple Terms and conditions


Step 20
Select the APPLE SSD
or Untitled
if you skipped steps 13 – 16, then click Continue
.

Allow the OS installation to complete and setup your new profile with administrative privileges.
NB: If you encounter any issues or errors, please reach out to your school coordinator with a screen shot of the error.
